Brian Krock: Big Heart Machine Ensemble
June 11 @ 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm

Big Heart Machine
“Perhaps you’ve heard about a new big-band resurgence in New York. Near the center of that wave is Big Heart Machine, an 18-piece ensemble led by a Midwestern-born multireedist and composer named Brian Krock.” (Nate Chinen, WBGO) Big Heart Machine is a large jazz ensemble comprised of many of Brooklyn’s most innovative musicians. While the restlessly inventive multi-instrumentalist Brian Krock serves as the group’s conductor and composer, Big Heart Machine is emphatically not a one-man-show. Krock surrounds himself with a diverse array of collaborators who are given a platform to combine their unique gifts into one ambitious musical collage. Saxophonists Anna Webber and Caroline Davis, vibraphonist Yuhan Su, trumpeters Chloe Rowlands and Kenny Warren, and guitarist Olli Hirvonen are just a few of the wildly divergent artists who combine their talents in Big Heart Machine. The release of their self-titled debut album in 2018 caught the attention of critics and fans alike, receiving the prestigious Aaron Copland Recording Grant as well as being included in year-end best-of lists, critics polls, and publications like the New York Times, the Atlantic, the Village Voice, Downbeat Magazine, Stereogum, and WBGO. In 2020, Big Heart Machine released Live at The Jazz Gallery to give fans around the world the opportunity to experience the band’s live show. Since then, Krock has been busyworking on new music for a future studio album, as well as producing music analysis videos for his popular YouTube channel Score Study.
