Gabrielle Stravelli in the Theater

May 1 @ 8:30 pm - 10:00 pm

Join the Gabrielle Stravelli Trio for an all-new set in the Birdland Theater!

For the past decade, Gabrielle has been making a joyful noise with pianist Michael Kanan and bassist Pat O’Leary, breathing new life into the American Songbook with a hard-swinging style rooted in jazz tradition, coupled with Gabrielle’s totally modern lyric interpretations. This set will feature the trio’s specialty; presenting wonderful, rarely heard songs from both one-hit wonders, and iconic composers like Johnny Mercer, Mack Gordon, Cole Porter and many more. The American Songbook is no museum piece for this group, but a living, breathing testament to the power of a beautiful melody and lyrics that speak to the universal human experience.

Award-winning vocalist and songwriter Gabrielle Stravelli has garnered critical acclaim and a loyal following thanks to a highly personal musical viewpoint. Equally at home in both intimate clubs and large concert halls, the singer combines a modern sensibility when interpreting lyrics with a tremendous swing feel and the pathos of classic soul. “Ms. Stravelli’s emotional intelligence coincides with a phenomenal voice that she wielded with an easygoing confidence and impeccable taste.” -The New York Times

Gabrielle regularly appears in the country’s finest jazz clubs and performing arts centers and has headlined domestic and international jazz festivals including the 2023 Cayman Arts Festival, the 2021 & 2018 WBGO Jazz on the Mountain Festival in New Paltz, NY and the 2019 Providencia Jazz Festival in Santiago, Chile. She recently appeared alongside world-renowned jazz pianist Fred Hersch in his newest online masterclass “Just Friends: The Art of the Duo” in addition to premiering his song cycle “Rooms of Light.” She toured the U.S. premiering Wynton Marsalis’s “Abyssinian Mass.” and has performed and taught throughout Eastern Europe, the Middle East, Southeast Asia and South America as a US State Department “Jazz Ambassador. ”
