Gabrielle Stravelli Trio in the Theater
May 31 @ 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm
The Gabrielle Stravelli Trio features vocalist Gabrielle Stravelli, pianist Michael Kanan and bassist Pat O’Leary. The group brings the American Songbook to life with a hard swinging style rooted in jazz tradition coupled with Stravelli’s totally modern lyric interpretations.
Equally at home in intimate clubs and large concert halls, the group’s repertoire mines the Songbook not just for familiar classics, but for many wonderful lesser-known songs in the canon. This varied repertoire highlights the true diversity of creators behind the Great American Songbook; from immigrants to African Americans and female composers and lyricists, illustrating that the Songbook represents and belongs to all Americans.
Over ten years of collaborating, the trio has developed a musical connection that allows for great spontaneity in their performances and reflects their true joy in making music together. The American Songbook is no museum piece for this group, but a living, breathing testament to the power of a beautiful melody and lyrics that allow us to find our shared truths.
“The lady and the gents understand one another, implicitly, and throughout each set, two of the musicians take turns holding the other to the light in undaunted efforts to show them off, before all three gather as a unit once more, in blissful, beautiful harmony.” – Stephen Mosher, BroadwayWorld.com
