James Carter Quartet “Lookin’ at the Lock” Music of Eddie ‘Lockjaw’ Davis
February 28 @ 9:30 pm - 11:00 pm
Detroit native James Carter is widely recognized for his virtuosity on saxophone and woodwinds. Carter has embraced all elements of jazz history, from dixieland to fusion to free jazz — and was one of the few prominent artists of his generation to do so — recording and performing with a wide variety of artists from The World Saxophone Quartet to Wynton Marsalis, Dee Dee Bridgewater, The Mingus Big Band, and many more. Carter’s new project, debuting at Birdland, is a tribute to one of his heroes, the bluesy soulful jazz tenor saxophonist Eddie ‘Lockjaw’ Davis.
