Robert Edwards Big Band
May 29 @ 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm
From bebop to boogaloo, the Robert Edwards Big Band is an all-star ensemble delivering 12 the most exciting voices in NYC today. Winner of the 2018 Detroit Jazz Festival’s “Cutis Fuller National Jazz Trombone Competition”, Robert’s skills as performer are in constant demand. His own big band pedigree boasts tours and stints with the Roy Hargrove Big Band, The Dizzy Gillespie All-Star Big Band, Ron Carter Big Band, Christian McBride and the Village Vanguard Jazz Orchestra. Trombone icon, Steve Turre, says of Robert, ”…a wonderful trombonist…his harmonic understanding is exemplary and his writing is both strong in the tradition and in the modern/contemporary sense.” Legendary bassist and director of the Dizzy Gillespie All-Star Big Band says, ”Robert Edwards is one of the future giants of the jazz trombone.” Rounding out the band is amazing vocalist, Vanessa Perea, who sings and swings atop the band with ease. Vanessa is a special performer who can not only scat a bebop solo, but also sing beautiful ballads in English, Spanish or Portuguese. The Robert Edwards Big Band performs every Tuesday night at Swing 46 in Times Square.
